Much better is the 2007 Cellar Selection Pinot Noir. The nose is rather subdued, although there is an intriguing scent of the sea coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, fine tannins, more expressive than the other single vineyard Pinots with better acidity and finesse towards the finish with touches of plum, blueberry and cassis. This is Villa Maria’s best Pinot Noir.
Villa Maria continues to serve as the great ambassadors to New Zealand wine, appealing to both supermarket consumers and connoisseurs.
