The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Hautes-Maizières is potentially the greatest of Lachaux's lieu-dit communal bottlings this year, but it will also demand the most patience. Underlying in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plum, rose petals, peonies and cinnamon, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a compact, youthfully introverted core of deep, vibrant fruit framed by chalky structuring tannins.

The most reserved and tightly wound of these communal-level bottlings from Lachaux, the 2019 Vosne-Romanée Hautes-Maizières unfurls in the glass with notions of plums and raspberries mingled with sweet spices, orange rind and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, layered and super concentrated, with an introverted core of fruit that's framed by fine but youthfully firm structuring tannins, this will demand and reward a bit of patience.

Revisited a year later, Lachaux's 2018 Vosne-Romanée Hautes-Maizières is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with notes of sweet wild berries, peonies, blood orange, raw cocoa, Indian spices and sassafras. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's layered and lively, with an ample core of fruit and powdery structuring tannins. Youthfully reserved today, this will really begin to unfurl with five or six years in bottle.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Hautes-Maizières offers up aromas of cherries, raspberries, potpourri, blood orange and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and sapid palate that's richer and more layered than the domaine's regular Vosne bottling, with succulent acids and fragrant finish.

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Hautes-Maizières is very fine indeed, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis, rich spices, grilled game and dried flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with an ample, layered mid-palate, succulent acids and a long finish.
