Alain Labet now works with his son Julien, who since 1997 has vinifled all the wines from the family estate in addition to devel-oping his own holding. Wines from the southern part of the Jura may not be as typically regional as others but they do bring out the special qualities of marly and limestone soils, making for some outstand-ingly precise and mineral chardonnays. Fruit from ancient vines-more than fifty years old on average-reinforces this min-eral character. A touch of oak from barrel aging adds extra complexity, though some of these wines may take a while to inte?grate their wood.
