1997

This 1997 Rully reveals spicy, super-ripe apple aromas. It is fat, luscious, intense, and offers loads of uncomplicated but consumer-friendly quantities of toasty pears, minerals, and flower blossoms. This well-made wine should be consumed over the next 3-4 years. Note: Contrary to my previous report that the Chateau de Rully was owned by the Antonin Rodet negociant house, I have recently learned that it is actually under a long-term (30 years) production and marketing contract.

Revealing smoke and toasted oak aromas, the Rully is a bright, racy, yet oily-textured wine. Sweet metallic flavors are intertwined with candied pears, crisp currants and traces of vanilla bean in its character. It should be drunk by 2002.
The score, noted on a range and in parentheses, indicates that the wine was tasted from barrel.
