The label on this wine says “unwooded Chardonnay,” and in this case that seems to be part of the problem. This is a case of just too little fruit—the wine could certainly use some wood for texture, even flavor. There’s a taut framework, but there’s not much on it. ——M.N.(6/1/2001)—— 82
