The 2008 Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from six vineyards of which three are handpicked, then sorted and whole cluster pressed to minimize tannins and keep the juice away from the skins. It sports a crisp, zesty nose with gooseberry and cut grass and in the background, a hint of orange blossom and passion fruit. The palate is medium-bodied, quite aromatic for a Sauvignon Blanc with kiwi fruit, Granny Smith and a chalky finish. It could do with just a little more length but it opens up nicely. Brian Bicknell is continuing to invest in Mahi since ceasing his consultancy work in 2006. The winery was still being constructed in January but thanks to the late harvest it was completed a week before the grapes were picked. He feels that the work they have put into their contracted vineyards that are certified organic, are beginning to pay dividends.Importer: Vine Street Imports, Philadelphia, PA; tel. (215) 533-9463
