2007

The Roanoke 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon – containing 6% Merlot – smells of fennel, cedar, and cassis. Its textural firmness and sheer density manage not to turn into severity thanks to a core of bright, juicy black fruits. This seems to want time, and perhaps should be granted several years before revisiting; indeed, Piscano does not propose to release it before next year. Owner Richard Piscano – who is also vineyard manager for Wolffer Estate – has been growing grapes on Long Island for more than 30 years, and with the assistance of Wolffer cellarmaster Roman Roth has recently been rendering ever-finer wines under his vineyard’s own label as well.Tel.
